Book review: Excused Absence by Douglas Wilson

This is a good book for Christian parents wrestling with the issue of sending their kids to public school. If you're not wrestling with this, or if your kids are not old enough yet, maybe it's a good idea to start thinking about the issues involved before you have to address them.

Wilson doesn't always make his points as effectively as I think he could, so I wouldn't expect this book to convince a skeptic of the benefit of homeschool. Rather, for the open-minded person just seeking to get another point of view on the subject before making a decision, this book will be useful. Also, please don't take my advocacy of homeschooling as a slight to the millions of good public school teachers out there! Keep teaching and working to improve the system, at the same time acknowledging that there are legitimate problems with the system that Christian parents need to think about and respond to.
